Technical and practical challenges in implementing digital applications for home monitoring
The MONARCH study team have been presenting the technical and practical challenges of using home monitoring technology at several virtually held conferences throughout September 2020. Chief Investigator Ruth Hogg presented at the 2020 British Congress of Optometry and Visual Science (BCOVS), and trial manager Robin Wickens presented at the Society for Social Medicine and Population Health annual conference.
The MONARCH study is investigating the diagnostic accuracy of three home monitoring tests (two digital apps and one paper-based test) for detecting the reactivation of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD), a leading cause of blindness in the UK. The presentations focused on the difficulties of implementing digital home monitoring technologies in this elderly patient population and the technical challenges faced with regards to the equipment, data transmission and the tests themselves.
The challenges discussed in these talks will be published in due course.
