CAMELOT opens to recruitment

The CAMELOT trial is now open, with two participating sites receiving the green light to start recruitment in January 2023. Southmead Hospital (North Bristol NHS Trust) was the first to randomise a patient into the trial, with Russells Hall Hospital (The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust) close behind with their first randomisation taking place the same day! Three other sites have completed their site initiation visits and hope to be starting recruitment soon.

CAMELOT is recruiting patients who are undergoing an emergency laparotomy (open abdominal surgery). The trial aims to determine whether adding Rectus Sheath Catheters to standard patient controlled analgesia (pain relief) following laparotomy provides better pain relief, fewer side effects and complications, and greater satisfaction for these patients. It will also determine whether Rectus Sheath Catheters are safe and cost-effective. More information can be found on the trial webpage found here: https://bristol-trials-centre.bristol.ac.uk/details-of-studies/camelot/
